The Piranha NM-PIR7A production-ready, embedded platform is a highly integrated, compact system that targets applications in need of a robust touch interface and mid-size, high resolution screen, and it employs the processing power to drive a comprehensive set of peripherals including wireless communication and full color graphic display. This system is designed to support a complex user experience and has enough memory to support multiple concurrent tasks using FreeRTOS.

The multi-touch screen supports up to 5 touches and gestures. The display is large enough to present complex user interface controls like sliders, progress meters, lists, and bitmapped buttons. Field updates can be accomplished through Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or USB. The integrated sound can play WAV files and allows for software control of volume. The micro SD card slot securely holds a card of any memory size to allow you to add additional storage easily.

The Piranha can be connected to various display sizes up to 7”. For example, the 7” 840×400 display supports 16-bit color graphics. A projected capacitive touch screen is bonded to a 4.3″x8.6” impact resistant glass front panel. The system is controlled by a Microchip PIC32 MX 80MHz processor with 512KB of flash memory. An Ethernet port supports wired network communication and an optional plug-in Wi-Fi module allows the unit to be used as a wireless device.

This platform uses high reliability components with a wide temperature range and is ready to integrate into any commercial product. Drivers and Middleware for each component written in C for the Microchip MPLAB X IDE help us quickly get the development process up and running. Because we are familiar with the code that drives this system, our team of designers and engineers are very qualified to create the application code for you to operate your device.
